e-Generation Connected Joy Parent Seminar (2): Identifying Harmful Information X Cultivating Information Literacy

Default Event Background

Nowadays, teenagers are exposed to a vast amount of online information every day. The internet is a rich resource that can broaden horizons and enhance learning. However, it is also filled with harmful or misleading content that may negatively impact young people's values and physical and mental development. Since teenagers may not have sufficient judgment to distinguish between true and appropriate information, parental guidance and companionship are especially crucial. Moreover, if parents have methods to teach their children how to make good use of online resources for learning, it can not only improve students’ digital literacy but also cultivate a proper attitude toward information usage.

The Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Education City and the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, will co-organise the parent seminar “e-Generation Connected Joy Parent Seminar (2): Identifying Harmful Information X Cultivating Information Literacy”. A Project Officer from the Office for Film, Newspaper and Article Administration will discuss how parents can help prevent young people from accessing harmful online content and introduce relevant aspects of the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance (Cap. 390). An Education Manager from Hong Kong Education City will analyse the differences between the teacher-centered and student-centered education models, and explore with parents  how to turn online risks into educational opportunities, and equip them with core principles on selecting quality online resources for children. The details of the seminar are as follows:
